St Elizabeth Catholic Primary School Academy Conversion Update – Joining Lux Mundi Catholic Academy Trust
01 September 2025

Dear Parents and Carers,

On 01 September 2025, St Elizabeth Catholic School formally converted to academy status. This change of status follows work with staff, governors and parents, first in exploring the opportunities presented by joining our Trust, then following a successful consultation period, and completion of legal work to ensure a smooth transition from voluntary-aided to academy status.

What does being an academy mean?

When a school converts to academy status, it becomes:
• Independent but state-funded – we will now receive funding directly from the government.
• Part of an academy trust – managed by the Lux Mundi Catholic Academy Trust rather than the local authority.
• There is More freedom – to manage our curriculum, term times, and finances, while still following national rules for admissions, exams, and special educational needs.

It is business as usual. On the Department for Education (DfE) website, you may notice St Elizabeth is shown as “Open, but proposed to close.” Please do not worry, this is the standard procedure. It simply means that we are no longer a maintained school and will reopen on 1st September 2025 as part of the Lux Mundi Catholic Academy Trust.

This is a significant and exciting step for St Elizabeth Catholic Primary School. For more information about the Trust, please visit www.luxmundi.co.uk or follow them on Instagram @luxmundi.cat.

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank our Chair of Governors, Mr Tim O’Sullivan, for his outstanding dedication and commitment to our school since 2007. While he is stepping down as Chair of our School Governing Body, he will continue to support us as a member of the Lux Mundi Trust Board.

Our school’s Catholic ethos, values, and community focus will remain exactly the same.

Our mission:

“Inspiring and achieving lifelong learning in a welcoming Catholic community”.
Our values:

Respect, Resilience, Relationships & Responsibility

Frequently Asked Questions

Will the school name change? No – we will remain St Elizabeth Catholic Primary School.

Will staff and teachers change? No – your child’s teachers and support staff remain the same.

Will the school uniform change? No – there are no plans to change the school uniform.

Does this affect admissions? No – admissions will continue to follow the same policies and Catholic ethos as before. Academies are bound by the School Admissions Code but the academy trust becomes the admissions authority, meaning they are responsible for their own admission arrangements.

What are the benefits for pupils? Being part of the Lux Mundi Catholic Academy Trust will allow us to share resources, training, and opportunities across schools, helping us provide the very best education for your child.

We are excited about this new chapter for our school and look forward to working closely with the Lux Mundi Trust for the benefit of our children and community.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support.
